The BBC recently showed a documentary about the life of an oak tree. The Oak is iconic in the UK and the documentary goes in to extreme detail. Probably boring for some but those who are always amazed by the beauty of oak will no doubt enjoy the documentary.
Using the latest technology they basically examine the workings of the trees lifecycle over a single year. As we all know a year produces those amazing growth rings that we see in our shelves. Obviously depending on environmental conditions we get very different grain. English Oak is considered to be one the most superior species. The main issue with English variety is that you are commonly left with large wastage as majority of consumers request prime oak (planks cut from the best areas of the tree).
In our opinion English Oak is always our favourite and we look forward to the return of a sustainable oak forestry plan.
